Learning to use clay to make functional pottery can be complex. Students had to learn and use a variety of techniques from pinching, to hand building with coils and slabs in order to make water soluble tumblers. They needed the clay to be thin enough to survive the kiln, but sturdy enough to stand tall against gravity. Students slipped and scored to ensure there'd be no leaks when filled with liquid. Reflective logs were kept to compare their success and challenges with new.learned techniques.
