Kindergarten Remakes Yayoi Kusama

"Remake" is a contemporary art form in which artists create a set, props, and costume mimicking the scene of an artwork. Then, the artist(s) or model(s) pose as the figures in the artwork. A photograph captures this remake composition.


Students began observing art of Yayoi Kusama to recreate what they saw. They used Kusama style paintings and sculptures to build an instillation in the art classroom. Finally, they dressed in patterns, as Kusama often does, to be photographed within their collaborative artwork.

Grade Level Expectation: 1. Investigate the properties of materials to support the planning and making of works of art.

Older age levels enjoy digitally editing photographs and famous artworks to remake the classic. This can be done entirely through digital media, or you can hand create art and photograph it before digitally editing.
