How could your art change the world? What would you make? Where would you show it? Who might you need to communicate with to get your art out in the world?
Researching public art and discussing intentions for creating public art teaches the following 2020 Colorado State Standards of Visual Arts Education:
Kindergarten, Standard 3. Invent and Discover to Create, Grade Level Expectation: 1. Investigate the properties of materials to support the planning and making of works of art. Evidence Outcome: b. Describe intention for creating artwork.
Second Grade, Standard 4. Relate and Connect to Transfer, Grade Level Expectation: 1. Observe and discuss how visual art and design are evident in the everyday life of communities. Evidence Outcome: b. Investigate public art and its role within the community.
Third Grade, Standard 2. Envision and Critique to Reflect, Grade Level Expectation: 2. Synthesize ideas about personal works of art and imagine possible next steps. Evidence Outcome: a. Demonstrate understanding of how research inspires development of ideas.
4th Grade, Standard 2. Envision and Critique to Reflect, Grade Level Expectation: 2. Synthesize researched and visual information to imagine, inform and plan possible next steps in personal art making. Evidence Outcome: a. Research from multiple sources to inspire works of visual art and design.
5th Grade, Standard 1. Observe and Learn to Comprehend, Grade Level Expectation: 2. Demonstrate an understanding of how works of visual art and design are influenced by the culture of daily life. Evidence Outcome: a. Observe and discuss how visual art and design exist in a shared contemporary world.
